Majorca has a great number of fairs and markets which take place all over the island. Thanks to the comfortable and well developed public transport, you and your family will be able to visit these markets and at the same time explore different zones and towns of Majorca.
In those markets and bazaars you will find fruit and vegetables, food stalls, craft products, clothes, pieces of furniture, decoration, second-hand items, plants, flowers and much more. It is a common practice to shop there using the palm baskets called “senalles mallorquines” produced on the island. Nowadays you will be able to purchase these baskets in craft and souvenir shops, both classic as well as more modern, colorful ones.
There are different days of the week established for each town to hold its market. Practically markets take place every day in different parts of the island. Nevertheless the most popular day among both local people and tourists is Saturday; it is when most markets are held and its streets are full of life.
Every year, in various towns and districts, the merchants and craftsmen put their stalls and offer all sorts of goods in local markets. The tradition to go to the market is very present especially among people from villages, but cities´ residents and tourists share the date and enjoy their ambience and entertainment.
Finally, as if it were not enough, the island counts on various dates in which thematic fairs are celebrated. You might find: agriculture, cattle, craft, industrial, sport, culinary, nautical, wine fairs, just to mention the most important ones. The variety has no limits!
Make sure you plan to visit any of the towns or coast areas when the markets are held to discover their charm.
