From July 28 to August 4, Palma hosts the 37th edition of the Copa del Rey Mapfre de Vela that turns the bay of Palma into the nautical epicenter of the Mediterranean with the celebration of one of the most important and prestigious regattas in the world, which distinguishes not only as a significant sport competition, but also as a social event, since every year it attracts numerous personalities, including the royal family. In this new edition it is expected to beat a new record as happened in 2017 when all previous figures were exceeded with the participation of 138 teams from 24 countries.

The Copa del Rey Mapfre is not just a sport event. In addition to the intense nautical programme, where the best sailors compete at the international level, it is also completed with an intense social agenda at the Real Club Nautico de Palma, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year and has become a benchmark. During the week, the Balearic capital welcomes more than 1.500 crew members, guests and personalities who take advantage of these days to enjoy the intense programme of activities that include parties, gastronomic tastings, gala dinners or the three appointments marked in red in the calendar: the Festival of the Sailor, the Ship Owners' Dinner and the trophy ceremony in Ses Voltes presided over every year by His Majesty King Felipe VI.
